Description

An area of broken, fast flowing water in a stream, where the slope of the bed increases (but without a prominent break of slope which might result in a cascade or waterfall), or where a gently dipping bar of harder rock outcrops

Topo50 description

Only those significant either by their size or location are held in the data and shown on the printed maps. Of these, rapid _poly is used when the area is large enough to be captured at 1:50,000 as an area feature. Narrower features are captured as a centreline
